SUMMARY:
The Business Intelligence (“BI”) Designer provides expertise in BI software development tools and modeling techniques. The incumbent understands physical data models and creates BI logical and presentation models to meet business reporting and analytics requirements. The incumbent must proficient in relational and dimensional modeling techniques in order to create optimal BI models that are easy to present in dashboards and reports. The incumbent is expected to be an expert in BI modeling tools such as Cognos Framework Manager and/or Oracle OBIEE repository design. The incumbent is responsible for BI software design, development, testing and documentation.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Design, development, document and test BI software based on user requirement specification
  • Design and develop BI models (star schemas, cubes, subject areas) using tools such as Cognos Framework Manager and OBIEE RPD (repository) designer
  • Work closely with data modelers, reports and analytics developers and bridges the gap between the two disciplines
  • Structure data for optimal presentation, access, performance, and integration
  • Implement and maintain object level and data level security
  • Document the metadata and data dictionary in collaboration with Business Analysts
  • Document all processes and support source code control using standard tools and processes
  • Maintain current knowledge of the technology industry, including leading tools and best practices
  • Set standards for technical documentation
  • Maintain BI objects, catalog, and folder
  • Work closely with BI administrators in production support and maintenance

  • Strong Knowledge of BI concepts     
  • Excellent data analysis skills
  • Strong knowledge of ETL best practices with hands-on experience.
  • Development and programming experience in Data Warehouse technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines

  • Strong knowledge of software development standards and best practicesThe incumbent must be flexible as there may be workweeks that require more than 40 hours, and/or international travel, to ensure the positions expectations and responsibilities are met 
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related field required
  • At least 10 years experience in BI design and in a diverse technical environment preferred
  • At least five years of BI Design and development experience required
  • Experience with Cognos Framework Manager and/or OBIEE repository design required
  • Experience with Oracle Prepackaged BI Application preferred 
ENVIRONMENT:
  • Approximately 100% performed in climate-controlled internal office environment working under normal office conditions.  0-10% domestic travel, and 10-20% of international travel in support of relationship building and collaboration with business teams. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk, and hear. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently is required to stoop, kneel and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds.
